Natural Scenes
The State Council of the People’s Republic of China formally recognized Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as “Zhangjiajie National Forest Park” on September 25, 1982, making it China’s first national forest park. The park is located in the Wulingyuan District of Zhangjiajie City. Yuanjiajie, Jinbianxi, and Tianzishan are just a few of the well-known landmarks in the park, which also contains hundreds of beautiful bodies of water and thousands of distinctive peaks.
Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area: Located in Zhangjiajie City’s Yongding District, Tianmen Mountain is revered as the “Soul of Wuling” and the “First Sacred Mountain in Western Hunan” due to its many cultural honors. With its ever-changing views of a sea of clouds and its enduring cloud and mist cover, the scenic region is home to attractions including Tianmen Cave, the glass walkway, and the Tianmen Mountain cableway.
A classic example of a karst terrain is the Huanglong Cave Tourist Area. Notable awards include “Wonder of the World’s Karst Caves,” “All-round Champion of the World’s Karst Caves,” and “Most Beautiful Karst Cave for Tourism in China.” It stands out on a global scale thanks to its extensive three-dimensional cave system, varied cave topographies, and terrestrial and aquatic sightseeing pathways.
Culturally and historically Important Artifacts
Many different ethnic groups call Zhangjiajie home, although the Tujia, Bai, and Miao make up the bulk of the population. As a result of the long history of production and life, many different ethnic groups have left behind thriving cultural traditions. The intangible cultural asset protection registry at the federal and provincial levels now include Sangzhi folk tunes and the Sangzhi ethnic Zhangguwu dance.
Zhangjiajie has a history of revolutionary acts. Among the many tourist attractions in Sangzhi County—where Marshal He Long was born—is the He Long Memorial Hall, which provides a comprehensive account of Long’s military career.
